I am currently Professor and Head, at the Department of History, Faculty of Social Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, India. In 1988-1991, I worked as In-charge, Rock Art Gallery, Janapada Sampada Division, Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, New Delhi, in which course I had a chance to do some fieldwork in the Chambal Valley, as well as at Bhimbetka. I am basically a prehistorian and an ethnoarchaeologist, and the assignment just mentioned, kindled my interest in the Rock Art. However, it is only now that aided by my students I have been able to pursue my research interests in this direction. In future, we intend to undertake precise dating of the rock art of the Vindhyan region, along with the regular and mundane documentation work.
